Now that you've seen the menu we bet you can't wait to bite into your main course! However, unlike a traditional inservice where you've been spoon-fed the content, this year you're ready to move to the "Big People's Table."
In order to make this happen, you'll be participating in a self-study to complete either independently or with a group.
The Process
- Determine your learning outcome. Look over the menu and think about what you'd like to get out of your self-study time. Reflect back on the previous school year, your own skills and the learning outcomes of your students. Which tools or methods listed will most help you meet your area of need?
- Communicate your outcome to fellow participants and form teams. You will be guided through a collaborative communication strategy that allows to refine your focus and find others that share your goals. This will help you to determine whether you want to spend the week working individually, with a team, or with your department/school.
- Determine your self-study status. Keeping in mind the outcomes identified by your fellow teachers, determine how you will go about reaching your personal goals. You'll do this by completing this statement in a posted reply to this page:
My goal is to __________. I will be working with the following team members:_________. By the end of the week, we will ___________.
- Use the resource links provided on the left along with any of your own resources to learn. We've gotten you started with a wiki page of links and resources. Feel free to add to these pages as you increase your knowledge base.
- Be prepared to share. Select 1-2 members from your team to share your learning outcomes with the rest of the group on Thursday afternoon. You'll have time to present your learning outcomes and group reflections with the remainder of the institute participants.
